This weeks discussion is of the September issue. Is it dead or not? Who is to blame? What are we doing to solve it?
The film, The September Issue, gives an insider look into the processes the editorial and creative staff go through at Vogue to publish the all-important September issue of the magazine. I loved every single second of the film. It was almost like a real-life Devil Wears Prada. I learned so much while being completely entertained by the drama of Anna Wintour and Grace Coddington's relationship. I don't want to give anything away, but I am definitely on Team Grace!
On another note, I learned a little bit more about September issues from the New York Post in their article, The September Issue Is Dead. Sadly, the September issue is dying or may already be gone. With the rise of celebrity influence on fashion, which many say that Wintour started, Vogue has lost its clout. The new wave of fashion enthusiasts get their inspiration from celebrities and fashion bloggers more than anything else. I wouldn't go as far as to say that the September issue is dead completely, but I will say that something needs to be done to create more of a unique voice for Vogue. I am enticed to see how this problem gets resolved.
